Hello world :)
My name is Naakie Nartey and I am a sophomore here at the Georgia Institute of Technology. I am a Business Administration major; yes, what most like to refer to as the "m-train". My concentration is... well I haven't really made up my mind yet, but I'm leaning toward Supply Chain Management. I'm originally from Stone Mountain, Georgia and I attended Redan High School (go Raiders!) prior to attending Tech. I like to bargain shop, go to the movies, and read a good book every now and then. I LOVE math (I know, I'm such a nerd!) and I have a passion for children and education. I like to think I'm pretty involved on campus. The African Student Association, Student Alumni Association, Minority Recruitment Team and Americorp's Jumpstart Program are a couple of organizations I have been involved in since I've been here.
So yeah, enough of the trivial facts. Now to the juicy stuff... how did I end up at Georgia Tech?
I would be lying if I told you Georgia Tech was my first choice when deciding which college I would attend. I wanted to get out of Georgia so badly! But when evaluating the pros and cons of all my options and determining which school would give me the best return on investment, Tech seemed like the only one that made sense. It didn't hurt that it's one of the nation's top public universities, has accredited athletic teams, and is located within minutes of Georgia State and the AUC where many of my friends go to school.
I decided to attend a program hosted by Georgia Tech's Minority Recruitment Team, called Welcome Weekend, to see if this was the school I really wanted to spend the next four years of my life. My decision was soon validated. As soon as I got there, everyone welcomed me with open arms. All the students were so willing to share their academic and social experiences with me. They reassured me that although Tech is known for its rigorous course work and high academic standards, there is still room to have fun. That was definitely proven by the night that they had planned for us, which included a greek step show and an Omega Psi Phi probate. When the overnight program came to an end, I didn't want to leave. But I knew I would be returning in August to create a lot more memories...
