Georgia Tech: Endless Opportunity

As I compose this blog, I'm not sitting in my dorm room overlooking some part of campus. I'm not even in Atlanta at the moment. Rather, I'm at Georgia Tech Lorraine, Tech's European branch in Metz, France. Instead of hanging around on campus this weekend or exploring Atlanta, I will be heading to Berlin, Germany, immersing myself in everything that the city has to offer. I hope that some prospective students and current students read this blog so that they can realize some of the incredible things that this place has to offer.

Hiking the Swiss Alps: A perfect weekend

And now a little about myself: I am currently a 5th year Electrical Engineering student minoring in Computer Science, a Co-op student and a GT Ambassador. This is my second semester abroad and will be one of my last semesters at Georgia Tech. I don't speak French, I love to travel and I love exploring Europe. I am from Snellville, Georgia and have wanted to go to school here since the 6th grade. I chose Georgia Tech because of my interest in computers, the web and technology of all sorts.

A campus in the heart of Atlanta

I chose Georgia Tech Lorraine out of all the study abroad programs because it offered classes in English, boasted a 4 day class week and was no more expensive than going to school in Atlanta (did I mention covered by most scholarships, too?). Over the course of the semester, I am going to share my experiences here and most of all, share the information about all the opportunities available to Georgia Tech students. Don't let anyone categorize Tech as "just another Engineering school" because it is way more than that.

Another one of my weekend trips: Venice

Tech can be whatever you want to make it, and I hope that you can use my experience to help understand what it is really like to be a Georgia Tech student. While I certainly have spent a lot of time abroad, I've lived on campus and worked on campus. Georgia Tech truly is my second home. My only regret about being here this summer and fall is that I haven't gotten the chance to explore the CULC, campus's newest addition.

If you want to know anything feel free to send me an email, I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you have. Ask me about being an engineer, about being a co-op, about campus involvement, about being an ambassador or about anything else! If I don't know the answer, I'm sure I can find someone that does.

I leave you with one of my favorite quotes:
"A single green light, minute and faraway, that might have been the end of a dock."
- F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
I love it because it reminds me that there is always something to explore, something else to look forward to. Until later, au revoir!

I plan to have my final gpa be a 3.9-3.95. I will have taken 5-6 AP classes by the time I've graduated.AP Biology, AP English 11th, AP English 12th, AP Calculus BC, AP Physics, and maybe AP Statistics. I volunteer with a daycare everyday after school for an hour and make food bags and pass them out to my community(11th-12th). I also will be the team manager for football for my 12th grade year. I'm am in the National Beta Club (10th-12th), National Honor Society (11th-12th), Math team (10th-12th), Math Competition Team Club (10th-12th), Spanish Club (9th-12th), Key Club (11th-12th). I've taken Honors Biology, Honors Math I, Pre-AP Lit/Comp, Honors Chemistry, Honors Spanish, and Honors Algebra 2.
I'm hoping to make a 700 math, 600 verbal, and 600 writing on my SAT for a total 1900 SAT
score. I am also projected to make between a 27-29 on my ACT.
I want to major in Civil Engineering and I'm an in
-state resident.
Do you think I would get accepted into Georgia Tech with this resume? I couldn't play any sports because I've had several surgeries during high school. Is there anything else that would help? I'm hoping to get into the Georgia Tech STEM summer program during the summer after my junior year so I can get more recognition from GA Tech.
