I still vividly remember when I got my first and last piercing. It was almost exactly two years ago. About an hour before I walked into that Claire's (embarrassing), I was sitting in a coffee shop with my laptop out. I was jittery even though I only ordered a smoothie.
My friends in high school told me that today was the day that all of my hard work in high school would pay off. Today was the day that my dreams would come true.
That day I got rejected from Harvard, Princeton, Yale and got put on the wait list for Columbia. I didn't apply to any mid-tier schools. It was top 5 or Georgia Tech for me. It was also the day I got an ear piercing.
It was a strange feeling being rejected from so many schools that I thought were within my reach. Now looking back, I'm glad that I got rejected from all of those schools. Is it because I got my butt handed to me? Is it because it cooled down my big head? Hardly.
Georgia Tech was absolutely the school for me and I'm not even an engineer. Although there is no way for me to definitively know, I am pretty confident that no other college could have offered even half of the opportunities, friends, and amazing experiences Georgia Tech has provided me thus far. This academic year I successfully...
- Paid my taxes
- Successfully dreamed up and executed a national convention (with quite a bit of help of course)
- Signed with Deloitte Consulting for the summer
- Received the Chinese version of the Fulbright Scholarship to study at Beijing or Tsinghua University for the next academic year
- Got to spend quality time with my family and my little sister in Johns Creek!
