Oxford Study Abroad Program 2010
Now, to get to the photo that I started the post off with: Yes, it's of a bunch of friends at a famous landmark...but it just so happens that this landmark is in Belgium! This summer I had the amazing opportunity to go to the Oxford Study Abroad program to tour Europe while earning 12 hours of Georgia Tech credit. Yes, the program is named the "Oxford" program for a reason--the last 6 weeks or so is spent at Worcester College (one of the Oxford colleges) in, yes, you guessed it, Oxford, England. The classes at Oxford only are Monday through Thursday, so you have long, three day weekends to enjoy surrounding areas--I went to Dublin, London, Warwick, and the Cotswolds for some of my weekends, though others went as far as Switzerland and Barcelona! I only spent 4 of my 6 weekends away because I got to enjoy Worcester College--which has award winning gardens with many staff solely dedicated to maintaining the spotless premises.
What "Oxford Study Abroad" does not tell you, though, is that only half of the trip is actually at Oxford! After a week of (intense!!) studying at Atlanta, we hopped on a plane to Berlin via London Heathrow. For the next 5 weeks, we spent 1-4 days at each of the following cities: Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Vicenza, Padua, Florence, Rome, Venice, Bern, Paris, Brugge, and Brussels. Let me tell you, it was one of the most tiring 5 weeks that I've experienced so far--every day, we toured the cities we were in, stopping in at some of the most well-known art museums and seeing some of the world's best musicians play. After lectures in the morning for our art and architecture class as well as a music class, we headed out to museums, had a short break for lunch, then occasionally went to concerts in the evening. I lost track of what day it was--every day ran together. Luckily, I spent time going through my photos and blogging every day, so I have a good amount documented. Obviously, it worked better in the beginning than the end of the 5 weeks (imagine walking miles every day and being out for hours and then coming home to blog/edit photos for over an hour before going to bed to wake up at 6:45 the next day!).
